SpaceX launches 36 OneWeb satellites from Florida
SpaceX successfully launched 36 OneWeb satellites into orbit on Monday, December 12th, marking the company's third launch in less than a month. The launch took place from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.
The Falcon 9 rocket lifted off at approximately 4:30 PM EST, carrying the OneWeb satellites into low Earth orbit. The satellites will join OneWeb's existing constellation of satellites, which provide high-speed, low-latency internet connectivity to customers around the world.
This launch is a significant milestone for OneWeb, as it brings the company closer to its goal of providing global coverage with its satellite constellation. OneWeb plans to have a total of 648 satellites in orbit by the end of 2022, which will provide coverage to over 90% of the world's population.
The launch is also a major victory for SpaceX, which has been providing launch services for OneWeb since 2019. SpaceX has now launched a total of 106 OneWeb satellites into orbit, and the company has a contract to launch a total of 428 OneWeb satellites.
